In one of the few games with any merit during the opening weekend of college football, Michigan State will travel across the country to open at Cal. But don't expect the Spartans to sway from their routine for the biggest clash of the weekend.
"It's a business trip," coach Mark Dantonio said. "We'll pack a toothbrush and a comb and that's about it."
When traveling from coast to coast, coaches will often take their team out a day early, to give bodies a chance to adjust to the time difference. The Spartans, though, aren't headed for the Bay Area until Friday morning, just like any road game. They'll also stay on Eastern Daylight Time, meaning players could be headed to bed while the sun is still out.
The Spartans lost six games last year, all by a touchdown...
